Pop Idol David Cassidy Dead at 67

David Cassidy died Tuesday in a Florida hospital. He was 67 years old.

His publicist JoAnn Geffen confirmed his death, and released a family statement. “On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.” He had been hospitalized for several days with organ failure.

In 1970, after signing with Universal, Cassidy took on the role of older brother Keith Partridge in “The Partridge Family.” The sitcom was loosely based on real-life family musical act the Cowsills, the show ran from 1970 to 1974, and became uber popular. In addition Cassidy was one of the only the only cast members who were allowed to actually sing. The other kids on the show only lip-synced. But “The Partridge family” show and helped launch Cassidy’s musical career.

 

In March 2017 Cassidy announced that he had been diagnosed with dementia, here he is talking about it with Dr. Phil.
