If you were one of the 81 million people to install the new iOS 8 update on your iPhone last month, you most likely noticed the free U2 album Songs of Innocence download in your iTunes library. If you’re like me, you were very unhappy, especially when you couldn’t delete it. Well, Bono has recently issued an apology to those of us upset by the band’s suprise album “gift”. In response to a fan stating “It’s really rude” Bono stated, “Oops, I’m sorry about that”. (Thanks for being so sincere, Bono…) When asked what made them decide to release their album this way, Bono responded, “A drop of megalomania, a touch of generosity, a dash of self-promotion and deep fear that these songs that we poured our life into over the last few years mightn’t be heard.” Sounds to me like the band is losing it’s luster… Or as I am told, I just have bad taste in music!

Even with all of the negative backlash, it wasn’t a total bust! It’s said that sales of U2 albums on iTunes did increase after the release. I must admit that it was a pretty bold move and had great potential to promote revenue and band interest! U2 band members have been working the album for the past five years now and just wanted to share their hard work with the people of the world. If you don’t already and would like to own the Songs of Innocence album, it is now available for your purchasing pleasure on iTunes!

For those of you who do not wish to have the album in your library anymore, here is a link for Apple’s simple step-by-step How To Delete! http://support.apple.com/kb/ht6439
