Five Utah Spring Adventures. These last few days have been slightly warmer, with mostly blue skies along the Wasatch Front. This is the kind of weather that gets us really craving spring. Just in case the snowstorms start again, here’s 5 Utah adventures to keep you thinking warm and sunny.

  • 1. Moab: just 3 short hours from Salt Lake City and a good 10-20 degrees warmer. Spring is perfect, because the town’s not filled to capacity like it is during the summer. Good rates on hotels and rafting, hiking, mountain biking and off-roading galore. There’s excellent restaurants and even a winery or two to test out a new vintage.   • 2. The Rope Swing over Corona Arch: they’re calling this the world’s largest rope swing, and videos from the swinging daredevils are getting over 5 million hits a day on YouTube. Find more info on how to get there and tackle the swing yourself here.

  • 3. Delicate Arch: it’s a 1.5 mile hike to get to the arch, but it’s worth it. The view there is one of the most-photographed in the world by professionals. Find directions here.

  • 4. Anazasi ruins – House On Fire: this is one of the most stunning examples of architecture from the mysterious Anazasi tribe, who left evidence of architecture, sophisticated dwellings, farming plans, water harvesting – all things considered impossible for that era and this dry region. The House On Fire ruins are close to Blanding, another charming little town where you can spend the night. Directions and info here.

 

Mexican Hat, Utah, USA

  • 5. Mexican Hat: this quirky little spot is named after peculiar hoodoo rock formation just east of town. If you’re a fan of old movies, you can drive and hike past a good half-dozen spots that you’ll recognize from countless John Wayne films, along with “Forrest Gump” and “Star Trek.” Find directions and things to do here.
