Save, Spend Or Splurge: Weekend Family Fun Along The Wasatch Front. I received some excellent feedback this week about what you’d like to see in your weekend planner. With summer looming and every festival, concert and celebration set to pounce, everyone’s set to spend a little, they just want to know the best places to splurge. Watch for the best places to spend your money this weekend, and what to enjoy for free.

Friday 4.24:

9a-5p: Family Vacation – new interactive exhibit at the Springville Art Museum that acts as a retro road trip of Utah. Admission is free.

12n-6p: FIT.Con – all things fitness and health, Southtowne Expo Center. Tickets: children are free (5 and under) $19.

6pm: Friday Night Lights 5K and 10K – Liberty Park, SLC. Race, t-shirt, dinner and party. Tickets: $38.

6:30pm: Collector’s Book Salon – come chat and discuss all things book at Sam Weller Bookstore, admission is free.

6:30pm: SL Bees vs. Fresno Grizzlies – Smith Ballpark. Tickets are $15-35.

7-9pm: Utah Museum of Contemporary Art opening reception – introducing new art installations, food and wine. Donations are suggested.

7-10pm: Star Party – Salt Lake Astronomical Society, Harmon’s 7th Street, SLC. Admission is free.

7:30pm: Cirque Du Soleil: Varekai – Maverick Center. Tickets: $25-145

Saturday 4.25:

7am: Tulip Festival Half Marathon – Thanksgiving Point. Running fee: $15-80

8:30am: Ghost Town Triathalon – Toole. Race fee: $35-79

9am: Walk Utah: MS Society – Gateway Mall, SLC. Join us on the Rewind 100.7 team for a stroll…a saunter, if you will. You don’t have to donate, but we will have prizes for top earners. come early and pick up a free t-shirt! Fee: donation.

9:30am: Fearless 5K – Memory Grove Park: race for Fearless Self Defense during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Race fee: $20.

10a-2p: SL Downtown Farmer’s Market – Rio Grande Depot. Free admission.

10am: Residential Landscape Design – Red Butte Gardens. Work with a professional throughout the class on creating your own landscape at home. Fee: $197.

10a-5p: Nihon Matsuri’s 10th Annual Japanese Festival – Japantown, SLC. Admission is free.

10a-4p: Earth Day Celebration – Swaner Nature Center, Park City. Admission is free or suggested donation.

10a-4p: Call Of The Wetlands – family nature adventure, walks, crafts, films all day. Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, Brigham City. Admission is free.

11a-2p: STEM Expo – Southtowne Expo Center. Hundreds of science, technology, engineering and math exhibits, a great way to get your kids interested. Admission is free.

11a-4p: Go Chalk It Up – Utah State Fairpark. Obstacle courses w/ bungee, zipline and more. Tickets: $8-30.

12noon: Dora The Explorer Meet And Greet – Orem RC Willey. Photos and autographs, admission is free.

1pm: Utah Red/White Scrimmage – Rice-Eccles Stadium. Free admission.

3:30pm: Spring Fashion Show – Marshall White Center, Ogden. Admission is free, but a fundraiser for community non-profits.

5-9pm: Be Fearless Conference, Featuring Elizabeth Smart – SLCC Larry H Miller Campus. Tickets: $59.

6-9pm: Utah Pizza Party – Gateway Mall, SLC. Sample and vote for your favorites. Tickets: $15.

7pm: OK Go – The Complex, SLC. Tickets are $20.

7:30pm: Uhh, Yeah Dude Live – 50 West Club, SLC. Quirky podcast out of Hollywood goes live. Tickets: $25.

8pm: REAL Monarchs vs. LA Galaxy 2 – Rio Tinto Stadium. Tickets: $11-25.

10a-4p: Swaner EcoCenter Photography Exhibition – Utah Wilderness 50, Park City. Donation: $5.

12noon: Utah Valley Baseball vs Grand Canyon – Brent Brown Ballpark, UVU. Tickets: $5.

1pm: Utah Baseball vs. Washington State – Smith Ballpark. Tickets: $10.

1-5:30pm: Tilt Shift Festival – Salt Lake City Main Library. A collection of excellent short films, admission is free.

5pm: Cirque Du Soleil: Varekai – Maverick Center. Tickets: $25-145

7:30pm: Mockingbird – Pygmalion Theatre Company – Rose Wagner Performing Arts. Based on the teen story “Mockingbird.” Tickets: $15-20.

9p-mid: Karaoke – Tavernacle, SLC. See website for details.

9p-11p: Karaoke With Jackson – The Summit Lounge, Layton. See website for tickets.
