I’ve got bandaids on every finger from paper cuts, trying to wrap the presents while throwing a leg over our youngest–Zoe–who’s frantically trying to tear into the box and see WHAT IT IS!!!  Maybe this is a good time to take the offspring out of the house and…like…DO something.  But what?  Why, look!  Free–Or Cheap–Weekend Holiday Family Fun Along The Wasatch Front.  We’re here for you, honey.

Friday 12.12:

10a-9p: The Dicken’s Christmas Festival-Southtowne Convention Center, runs through Sunday.  Tickets $0-7.00.

10:30am: Stop in for Stories–story hour at the Murray Library for kids 2-7, free.

1pm: Storytime at Barnes & Noble-free storytime and crafts for kids 3-7 at the Murray location.

3pm: Utah Web Design-Free Wordpress class!  Layton

4pm: Holiday Origami-Riverton Library, free class and materials for making Holiday-themed origami art

5-10pm: Candlelight Christmas at This is the Place State Park-live nativity, time with Father Christmas, make crafts and learn pioneer dances.  Tickets: adults $11, kids $8

5-8pm: Christmas at the Homestead: Frontier Homestead State Park Museum, Cedar City. Tickets are $5.00.

7pm: Utah Jazz vs. Miami Heat-ESA. Tickets start at $12.00

7pm: Logan Tabernacle Christmas Concert-free.

7:30pm: “Joyful Noise” the story of Handel’s “Messiah” Covey Center of the Arts, Provo. Tickets $7-14

7:30: Comedian Owen Benjamin-50 West Club, SLC.  Tickets $15.00, runs through Sunday.

Saturday 12.13: 

9a-9p: Elf Scavenger Hunt at Gardener Village-track down those pesky elves with a scavenger hunt form you can print here.  Free activities for the Littles.

9am: The Polar Express Christmas Concert & Story from the Oquirrh Mountain Symphony-Midvale Bible Church, Bluffdale.  Tickets $10

9am: Winter Raptor Field Trip at the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve-free admission, guided trip.

10am: Living Ornaments-so pretty!  Building a mini terrarium inside a glass ornament at the Ogden Nature Center.  Tickets $1-12

10am: Anti-Gravity Classes–free trial classes at The Imagination Place in SLC for kids.  See how ariel classes work.  Times vary per age, please call for reservation: (801) 463-9067

10am: Eat, Play, Read: Trolley Square. Free admission for reading, cooking activities and theatre games for kids.

11am: Dancing With Angels-sensory-rich dance class for kids and young adults with developmental difficulties.  Saturdays at Artistic Dance in Draper, $55 per month

11am: Holiday Origami at Calvin Smith Library in SLC, free class and materials for holiday-themed origami art.

11a-3p: Lakeshore Learning free holiday craft for kids-make a winter wreath for free!

2-4pm: Holiday Family Art class at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art-painting class for Scandinavian holiday art.  Suggested donation $5.00 for materials.

5:30: Live Nativity at Morgan Farm-meet the animals, take a hayride and sip some cocoa.  Tickets: $15 per family OR 2 cans of food donation per person

6pm: Blood on the Dance Floor-Murray Theatre, tickets $16.00.

6:30pm: Skinny Puppy at The Complexholy moley!  Is this punk revival weekend?  Tickets $25.00.

6:45pm: Geminid Meteor Shower–see it up close with the Clark Planetarium1  Tickets $2.00

7-10pm: The Harry Potter Yule Ballbenefits pediatric cancer research and treatment.  Dress up in your finest Hogwart’s attire and head for the Realtor’s Education Center in Sandy-donations $22-25

7pm: Winter Light Solstice Concert-holiday music from all over the world, Chapman Branch Library, SLC.  Admission is free.

7pm: 7th Annual Sweater Soiree at The Complex-slap on that hideous holiday sweater and head out for prizes, fun and dancing.  Tickets are $5.00

Sunday 12.14:

8:30: Music & The Spoken Word–LDS Conference Center, Temple Square.  Free admission for a Christmas taping from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

10a-2p: Park Silly Sunday Market presents The Silly Holiday Bazaar-free admission and photos with Santa.  Amazing goods and food for gifties.  The Chateaux Deer Valley.

10a-3p: Wagon Rides at Wheeler Farm: take the kids on an old-school wagon ride, pet the animals, milk a cow!  Free admission to the farm, wagon rides are $2.00.

5-9pm: Cedar City Creche Festival-hundreds of Nativties from all over the world.  Admission is free.

6pm: Bear River Valley Community Choir performs “This Is Christmas,” admission is free.

7pm: USU State Women’s Basketball-vs. Colorado.  Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, tickets are $1-5.00

All day: IM Flash Christmas in Lehi-stop by for the prettiness and pick a name off the Angel Tree to sponsor for Christmas!  Free admission.
